Fran Richardson Garnett is a Pegan-Wilson whose grandfather, George Wilson, Sr. (Chief Thunderbird), was a Hassanamisco Nipmuc medicine man. Fran continues this legacy of leadership in her work as a member of the Nipmuc Nation Tribal Council. A member of the Nipmuc Nation Tribal Council since 1997, and elected as the Chairperson of the Council in 2000, Fran has been actively involved in the Nipmuc's efforts to gain federal recognition, increase economic development and establish policies and procedures for the tribal office. In her work on the Council, she incorporated both the Nipmuc Nation Tribal Office and the Nipmuc Indian Development Corporation.For more than 25 years, working with senior management and staff level employees, Fran has been responsible for interpreting and applying policy, procedures and union contracts, including hiring for allied health professionals and service positions at UMass Memorial Hospital in Worcester. Fran holds an AS in Business Administration from Becker College and is a member of the UMass Memorial Negotiating Team for the United Food and Commercial Workers Union (UFCW) and the Policy Committee for the State Health and Research Employees (SHARE).Active in the Ashland School System Parent Teacher Organization, Fran and her husband, Lamar, have one son.
