Chief of the Nipmuc Nation, Walter Vickers has been actively involved with tribal activities for more than 50 years, including hosting the annual powwow and homecomings at the Hassanamesit Reservation, and has been a leader in the Nipmuc Nation's efforts to gain federal government tribal recognition for the past 30 years.

During the Korean Conflict, Chief Vickers served as a radio operator with the U.S. Air Force. In addition, Chief Vickers worked for the Raytheon Corporation and, for over 35 years, Bay State Abrasives.

Active in the Masons, Chief Vickers has served as the District Deputy Grand Master of the Massachusetts Lodge.

Walter and his wife Carol reside in Northboro, MA and are the proud parents, grandparents and great-grandparents of four daughters, nine grandchildren and a great-grandchild.
